Wisdom teeth usually make their appearance between the ages of 17 and 21, as wisdom teeth are the last to come in, they may not have enough room in the mouth to grow properly. They may push or get stuck against other teeth, and grow at an angle under the gum. This can result in what is known as an impacted wisdom tooth, causing pain, swelling in the gums and irritation. Ice Pack: The most sought after and simple remedy for toothache is the use of an ice pack on the area. Ice helps in numbing the sensations and this will give relief from the pain and the discomfort while you are getting a wisdom tooth. Take an ice pack and cover it with gauze or wash cloth. Keep biting on it for some time to numb the area. Though it is a simple and temporary remedy, it works like a charm. Cloves and Clove Oil: Take a whole clove (don't crush or cut it) and place it in your mouth, directly on the spot causing the most irritation.
Keep the clove in your mouth until you experience a numbing sensation. You can also use clove oil; simply dab some on a cotton ball, or swab and brush it gently over your sore gums. Warm Salt Water: Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water is one of the easiest and most effective ways to get rid of wisdom tooth pain. Take hot water and dissolve a few tablespoons of salt in it. When the salt water has cooled to a warm temperature, rinse your mouth with it for a few minutes and you will find noticeable relief. Tea Bags: The tannic acid in tea bags has anti-inflammatory qualities that can help when you have a swollen gum and, pain along with it. Brew a tea and refrigerate the tea bag. Take it out when it is cold or frozen and leave it over your gums.
This is a wonderful way to bring down the pain and swelling on your gums. Peppermint: Peppermint is a really effective home remedy for relieving wisdom teeth pain. Take peppermint extract, and dab small cotton in it.
Now, place it on the aching tooth. You will feel good. Baking Soda Paste: Using a baking soda paste will help reduce swelling of your troubled tooth, and help reduce the pain. Take a dab of your regular toothpaste; put it in a small bowl, and mix a bit of baking soda with it. Apply this paste directly to the tooth, that’s hurting and you are sure to notice relief.
