Hi guys my name is Ivo Sirakov and I want to present you Tumors of the Nervous System. Brain tumors produce symptoms directly by invading tissue or indirectly by increasing intracranial pressure. They produce progressive cerebral dysfunction. Since the volume of intracranial cavity is fixed, tumors grow and edema may cause compression or displacement of parenchyma as well as increased intracranial pressure. On this cross section of the brain we can see the structures of the brain and anatomical positions. Tumors of the brain may be classified as primary or secondary. Primary tumors may be divided by tissue of origin. Secondary tumors include metastatic or craniovertebral bone tumors.

Most Neoplasm are the second most common cause of death from intracranial disease after the stroke. Here you can see 3D of the tumor of the brain and the structures around it. Neoplasm of Nervous system are divided on Neural tube gliomas, Neural crest tumors, Mesodermal tumors, Ectodermal tumors, Germ cell tumors. I want to pay attention here on the terminology neoplasm is divided on two pieses neo-/ new, -plasm/ a thing formed.

Gliomas (gli/glue, -oma/ tumor). On this slide we can see the brain and the tumors in their specific areas, depend of cause of and the structures involved. Neural tube gliomas include: Astrocytomas, Gliobastomas, Ependymomas, Oligodendrogliomas, Medulloblastomas, Ganglioneuromas.

Again I want to pay attention on the words; Astrocytomas (astro-/ star shape, cyt/ cell, -oma/ tumor), Glioblastoma ( glio-/glue, blast/ immature cell, -oma/tumor), Oligodendrogliomas (oligo-/little, dendro/ tree, gli/glue, -oma/tumor), Medulloblastomas ( medullo-/marrow, blast/ immature cell, -oma/tumor). Neural crest tumors include: Meningiomas, Schwannomas, Neurofibromas. Meningiomas the word is divided on (meningi/ meninges, -oma/ tumor) Mesodermal tumors include:Lymphomas ( lymph/ lymph, -oma/tumor), Hemangioblastomas(hem/blood, angio/ vessel, blast/ immature, -oma/ tumor), Lipomas(lipo/fat, -oma/tumor), Chondromas. Ectodermal tumors include: Craniopharyngiomas and Pituitary adenomas. Germ cell tumors include: Germinomas and Teratomas (terat/monster, -oma/tumor) On this slide you can see typical example of Astrocytoma Here is Glioblastoma multiforme Pineal tumors Medulloblastoma Meningioma Pituitary adenoma Metastatic tumor Oligodendrogliomas Schwannomas Neurofibromas Neuroblastoma Ependymoma Craniopharyngioma Primary brain lymphoma.
