Tummy tuck umbilical hernia correction. Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio

Author: Wilberto Cortes, M.D.

Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Star Bodies. Today we are going to show you the repair of an umbilical hernia during a tummy tuck. In this channel, we discuss everything you need to know to get that star body that you want. Welcome back. In the previous two videos, I discussed the anatomical consideration of the umbilical hernia as well as the surgical implications of an umbilical hernia repair.

When I am performing a tummy tuck, I make an incision in the lower abdomen. I then perform a dissection towards the belly button, and the belly button is detached from the surrounding skin. The hernia is encountered, and you can see in this picture the bulginess at the base of the belly button. I will go ahead and repair the hernia, but at the same time protect the integrity of the belly button. As you can see in this video, first I will do a cut at the base of the belly button to actually expose the hernia. When I perform this procedure, I will make a cut that is going to be big enough for me to see the defects on the belly button.

The edges will be clean surgically, and then, using very strong sutures, I will close the defect. Once I close the defect, I will assess the blood supply to the belly button, and if I do not see any issues, I will continue doing my tummy tuck, tightening the muscles, cutting the excess skin, and closing the abdominal wall. The belly button will be recreated through new openings in the skin and closed with interrupted sutures. As you can see during this procedure, it is important to fix the hernia during the tummy tuck procedure to avoid problems in the future. It is possible to protect the integrity of the belly button by understanding the anatomy and blood supply of the belly button. In this video, I discussed how an umbilical hernia is repaired during a tummy tuck. In the next video, you will see me doing a breast augmentation with 600 cc implants.
