Splinting a Shoulder Dislocation fixed position

Author: EMS Skills Video

The next type of splint I'll show you is a shoulder dislocation. Now we do know that with shoulder dislocations or clavicle fractures a sling a swath may be used but this device is for a dislocation in a locked position. If it will not go down we do not force it. So this device will be based off an airplane splint using a blanket and some cravats. As always check pulse, motor and sensory before and after each splint. With this device we will use a blanket and two triangle bandages tied together. Tie a square knot, place it into our folded blanket and roll it up. It does not need to be tight.

Bring the blanket under the arm and tie it to the left shoulder. This arm will come in, the patients arm can be relaxed, and I will bring a swath in around the body frame and through here to provide stabilization. Check pulse, motor and sensory after the application of this device.
