Premature Aging Skin caused by Adrenal Fatigue

Stress is a killer and it accelerates the aging process. This is Dr. Lam, founder of DrLam.com. In this video we are going to talk about how aging skin can be related to stress. It is a very common occurence, and if you look at pictures of famous people, like presidents, who undergo tremendous stress during presidancy, invariably if you compare their pictures from a few years back you'll notice a massive change in not only their hair structure, usually turning grey or silver, but also wrinkles as well as aging skin. Now, aging skin reflects the loss of collagen, because collagen is the underlying structure of the skin as an organ.

Remember, the skin is one of the largest organs of the body, in fact, it is the largest organ of the body, so when you have stress, the body's ability to handle stress rests with the adrenal glands. When the adrenal glands are put on overdrive, which is what it does when under stress, the first thing it does it to secret a hormone called cortisol. This hormone breaks down collagen, and as a result the collagen structure becomes compromised, when collagen is broken down, then the support of the skin goes down - thinning out the skin, weakened muscles, easily torn ligaments, and even stretching can cause the body to have a breakdown of the muscle and skeletal structure. When this does not happen, but the body is under stress on a slow but continuous process, then the subcutaneous tissues of the skin's integrity become compromised.

When collagen is lost, the fat tissue also goes away because of this lack of support; so as a result wrinkles come on. So premature aging can almost be invariably tied to a stress level that is beyond the body's ability to handle. Now, everybody handles stress differently, for some people it requires tremendous stress for the body to go into this mode, for other people a small amount of stress can cause skin tone to be reflective of this, accordingly.

But regardless of whether your body is strong or weak, continuous unrelenting stress can lead to premature aging of skin, and this is a very common finding. Now in people with adrenal fatigue, they look okay on the outside, but on the inside they are already in a state of disrepair; now if this is allowed to go on, there's premature aging as well, so looking at the body if you have pigmentation issues, skin that seems to be aging prematurely and rapidly compared to normal, do think of adrenal fatigue as a possible symptom.
