Parkaid - Parkinson's Disease Freezing of Gait Assistive Device

Author: AbhishekSisodia13

This is Bob Bob suffers from a neurological movement disorder known as Parkinson’s disease. Since his diagnosis, he has been fighting an uphill battle to carry on with his day to day activities. As for the symptoms, he initially started to develop tremors and loss of balance in movement As the disease progressed, he started to face sudden inability to move, a symptom known as freezing of gait This greatly increased Bob’s risk of falling. As a result of this, Bob experienced a severe fall that damaged his hip and he had to be hospitalized. Bob is not the only one, he is one of 6.3 million people living with Parkinson’s disease worldwide Despite expensive treatments and devices on the market patients still battle with this symptom on a daily basis and live with the constant fear of falling. This is why we developed Parkaid Parkaid is a wearable device that helps Bob and many more like him by predicting freezing of gait before it happens and immediately provide effective audiovisual cues that help eliminate the risk of falls entirely and help restore normal gait. A companion smartphone application helps Bob’s therapists and doctors by providing detailed reports for gait analysis and rehabilitation. In case a fall does occur, it automatically sends a message to his family informing them about the incident with the exact time and location Parkaid aims to improve the quality of life of people like Bob and his family.

With your help, we can build upon our initial success and take this forward making freezing of gait a thing of the past.
