Man sues after reportedly waking up during eye surgery at Tulsa hospital
It also meant that he was blinded during imex surgery after he said medical staff did not give him enough medicine to sedate him. He has now filed the lawsuit against saint. John's hospital for negligence. Ashli lincoln is live with why the man said this could have been prevented.
Reporter: I SPOKE TO HIM HERE AT HIS ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND HE TELLS ME, WHILE HE WAS HAVING THE IMEX SURGERY, HE WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TREATMENT. He is blaming the hospital and the medical staff by saying they did not give him enough medication to keep him from waking up. Garry clugston said he is no longer the avid traveler.
Now i cannot even drive. Reporter: IN NOVEL WRITER USED TO BE WHEN HE HAD HIS EYESIGHT. Took the fun out of it because it is hard to see stuff. Reporter: HE SITS TALKING TO ME LEGALLY BLIND AFTER HE SAID HE AWOKE DURING IMEX SURGERY AFTER HE SAID THEY DID NOT GIVE HIM ENOUGH MEDICATION. I could not see and i knew they were responsible. Reporter: HIS CAREGIVER -- HIS CHARACTER PROCESS. There was mass -- he said he woke up and they do not have enough medicine to give him.
They were running around and he raised his head 25 degrees at an angle in the scrub tech had to jump on the table and pin him down. Reporter: IN THE LAWSUIT, THAT WAS FILED LAST MONTH, IT WAS A CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE WHO ADMINISTERED HIS ANESTHESIA AND NOT AN ANESTHESIOLOGIST. The suit said there was no monitoring of his vitals as surgery progressed. None of this would've happened if he would not have woken up, if they would have had them under completely.
Reporter: SAINT. John told me they could not comment because of the legal process but they did state indoor documents they deny all allegations that employees were negligent. They put the blame on clarkston saying his injuries worry result of his physical condition. Clarkston hopes the truth will come out during the legal battle. It is ruined my life.
I'm grateful that he is alive. Reporter: SPOKE WITH THE STATE PORT THAT LICENSE ANESTHESIOLOGIST AND THEY TELL ME THEY ARE NOT INVESTIGATING THIS CASE AT THIS TIME PENDING THE OUTCOME OF THE LEGAL SITUATION. The state also tells me that it is rare for them to have these sorts of investigations come up when it comes to medical malpractice regarding imex.
