How to Get Out of Bed Without Back Stress - Ask Doctor Jo
Hey everybody, it's Doctor Jo. And getting out of bed in the morning can be one of the biggest ways to injure your back. So today I'm gonna show you how to get out of the bed using a log roll, which is what we call it in therapy, to get out of bed without stressing our those back muscles. So let's get started. So the log roll is very simple to do, you just have to get the technique down. So I'm gonna start off lying down in bed as if I were asleep. When you're sleeping, you're probably all over the place.
But when you wake up in the morning, instead of trying to lift yourself up and using your back, you can use the log roll technique. And it's very simple. Whichever side of the bed you get out on, you want to roll to that side, and be completely on your side. Then you're gonna take your legs and kind of draw them up towards you so there almost dropping off the bed, but not quite. It's gonna be a combination move when you drop your legs. So be ready to push up with the top hand as you drop your legs, and that will use a pendulum-like movement to get you up. So as I start to drop my legs, I'm just gonna push up with my arm, and you come up without having to stress out those back muscles.
So simple log roll, let me show you one more time. Same thing when you're lying down, come to your side, roll to your side, and then if you like sleeping on your back, you can roll onto your back or onto the other side. So one fluid movement. On to your side, bringing your legs up, pushing up with your arms and coming up. Simple as that. So if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section.
