Hi, thanks for joining me, my name is David, I am the Pedorthist here at Foot Solutions Halifax. Here to talk to you today, how to use hammer toe crests. Like most orthopedic appliances hammer toe crests are a love / hate, there is not much in between them. They come in small, medium and large sizes, and also one for the right and left foot.
There is a fabric and there is also a gel version. We tend to prefer the fabric, because this little strap here allows you to adjust the tension better than the loop of the gel and the gel tends to be a little bit of a lint and dirt magnet. Here is a short video on how to put them on. Simply place the loop over your second or third toe, pull the elastic strap snug but not tight. You’ll need to wear a sock or nylon to keep them in place. The hammer toe crest does not make your shoes tighter, as it’s simply filling the void under your toes.
The crest gives your toes a place to rest, relieves the discomfort from excessive movement. Start of slowly with like an hour the first day and gradually increase each day worn. You quickly get to know if you love or hate them. Keep on walking!.
