Getting to Know Dr. Carrie Hoarty - Boys Town National Research Hospital
Hi, my name is doctor Carrie Hoarty. I work in Internal Medicine at Boys Town National Research Hospital. I did all my training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center starting with medical school and then I went on to do a joint internal medicine and pediatric residency prior to my geriatric fellowship. I work primarily Internal medicine with an emphasis in geriatrics.
I do same day pediatric shifts as well in the evenings. I have been with Boys Town since 2011. I love taking care of adults. I love the continuity of the relationship with them, health prevention, and then disease management. I love meeting people's families but it is fun to see kids in the evening at the same day pediatrics clinic. I find kids really fun to work with and I find their parents a lot of fun to work with and talking parent to parent.
My philosophy of care is emphasizing as much prevention as we can so sleeping well, exercising, adequate nutrition, good nutrition, so preventing any diseases but then disease chronic management is really important and I enjoy being a partner in a patient's life for that. But also I want to know what a patient wants out of their health care provider and health care in general and help them meet those goals. I feel honored that I have an intimate relationship with patients because often times patients tell me significantly personal information and when I get the feedback that it really helped having that conversation or starting that medicine, or going to see that therapist, something that we discussed, an intervention we discussed improved their life, that's extremely satisfying to me.
Boys Town Internal Medicine is comprehensive care. We are focused on preventing chronic illnesses, we can manage a lot of the chronic illnesses, but if we need to work with specialists, we are happy to work with a cardiologists, a rheumatologist but we that see ourselves as the quarterback who helps to coordinate your care.
