Flexor Tenotomy for Hammertoe Release
This is a flexor tenotomy. We’re doing this gentleman’s fourth toe. It’s pretty simple, what we do, we have a little 18 gauge needle and we stick it right in. We’re going to rub this needle back and forth across the tendon to release the toe. There it went - just released. We’ll put a little dressing on there.
The toe just said, “Aaah.” It just released for us there. Wrap him up. You know, every operation should be this easy. I know, right? You can see the toe is sitting flat for him already.
You can leave this bandage on, just take it off tomorrow. Put a little dab of - actually you don’t need Neosporin - just a little bandaid every day, and that’s it. Look at that toe, it’s leaning straight, almost as straight as that toe now. That is it! You can see how straight that toe is sitting.
Before it was curled and now it’s nice and flat. That’s a flexor tenotomy.
