Does Vision Therapy Work? | Wow Vision Therapy
-It was July 4th, we were at the parade and I took a picture of Elly and her one eye was way off so we made her an appointment the following day at Dr. Seims office in Mattawan, MI. I started Googling it and she has intermittent exotropia. So, at first I thought she had exotropia, then I found out she had intermittent because it was only happening sometimes. My brother had his eye patched when he was a kid and then, my nephew, he had eye surgery.
- We didn't think surgery was the best route for it, right away. So we jumped into vision therapy. -Dr.
Seim said, "Come here [Wow Vision Therapy] or if you do it at home, i'll see you back in a year, and it won't be any better." Before we started, I was definitely, like, "Is this going to be worth it?" So we googled it. Does vision therapy work? And it says it will work in some cases, some cases it won't. Some people say it's just a waste of money. There wasn't a lot, so i found a Facebook page called Vision Therapy Parents Unite and I found a lot of people that have done vision therapy and it DID work. So far I think it's definitely been worth it. I mean the improvement she's doing, in stuff that I didn't even think of, that was wrong with her to begin with. I just thought it was normal, and it's just like, I think some of her infant reflexes that she's retained and trying to get rid of those so she can just build on and live her life.
She's been doing good! She doesn't complain. She loves coming here [Wow Vision Therapy] and visiting Dr. Ryan. -Her eyes are not watering off. She can identify when it's happening. She's starting to see 3D better; we took her to a 3D movie. -I took her to see Frozen, in 3D and she was standing up catching snowflakes in the air and that was very impressive.
And, she loved it. And, before when we watched the movie in here she didn't see anything. Her face was blank and she was staring at the screen. -Overall, not only is it helping her vision, but just, like, as a kid in school she's making a lot more friends. Elly's teacher, she sees an improvement. Last year she was very shy in school. Now, [vision therapy] kind of opened her up. Overall, it's..
...it's helping her develop a lot more than what she would be doing if she wasn't coming here.
